Breaking away

April 6, 2009

As it seems, breakfast is a much undervalued meal in our house.  The boys don’t seem to care for it very much. I, however, believe it’s a great way to start one’s day –  even to indulge in it if one has the time.

For a very long time, breakfast  was quick and easy: cereal. The non-thinking default menu would be Coco Crunch for the little one and muesli for myself. The hubby couldn’t care less; he’d only eat if he were really hungry, but it has to be another kind, maybe Banana Nut Crunch.

But enough is enough. It’s too boring not to say repetitive. So I am trying to break the breakfast habit.  We’ve started with some winners:

PancakesPancakes with banana and nutella

Hot choco, fruit, oatmeal and egg

Hot chocolate, peanut butter oatmeal, hard-boiled egg and fruit

Tonight I am racking my brain for more ideas. Healthy and tasty suggestions, anyone?

He used to like eating it. Now he takes it as a drink na lang. (Introducing sweets was my downfall.) In fact, I’m the only one who likes yogurt at home pala. Re: crib, yeah just lemme know!

Ooohhh… I love making big breakfasts too. Unfortunately, I fail when it comes to the health department. I make hungarian sausages or bacon, pancakes with lots of butter and syrup, creamy scrambled eggs. Or I make the usual -silogs — tocilog, tapsilog, fried dilis-silog. Try making ham or tuna sandwiches on wheat bread or French toast. My boys like those too.

No one likes healthy breakfasts in my house! I’m lucky if I get to serve breakfast at all, since I have very late risers here. But one day, I do hope to succeed, even if only once a week haha
