Who do you want to be?
November 5, 2009
When did we lose the audacity to be
an artist
a chef
a builder
a worker
an astronaut
a hero
a robot ?
My son declared to be all of that today. His sure declaration of his many possibilities is a sure questioning of our self-imposed boundaries.
This is the wisdom of a little child — so pure, so unchallenged, so open. Surely, it was ours too once? In all probability it’s still there somewhere, underneath the years and layers that come with “growing up”.
Time to start digging.

COOLNESS!
When I was much younger I wanted to be a Doogie Howser, then a lawyer (close), then a computer engineer (does blogging count?), then an architect (… of ideas and organizations? Hahaha), then a legislator (close).
I realized that it really DOES help to have parents who encourage all that dreaming and experimenting. Kudos to you and Armand for encouraging Matthew! I’m sure YOU will be learning a lot from your little man

Oh, I’ve always wanted to be an astronaut. I got up to applying for Physics CE course in Ateneo but when I didn’t get into that (got into CS instead), I later realized I wasn’t intelligent enough to get to NASA.
I guess, us parents, have to be able to find the right balance in encouraging our kids to reach their goals while not pushing too much. Easy to say but I have no idea how I’m actually going to do that.
